Transport in Delhi
The capital city of India has a well developed transportation network. In fact this network is the main lifeline that ensures that people in the city can travel without delay and hassle. More than 50% of the population of Delhi relies on local transport facilities. Ranging from expensive cars that you can hire to the local taxis and trains, these are the means of transport in Delhi. The transport system has evolved over the years and is improving with every passing day.
Traveling within Delhi

Rural Transport Vehicles or RTVs
These are more or less like mini buses. The rural transport vehicles are a good communication mode between the towns/cities and suburbs of Delhi. However, the numbers of such buses that ply are limited. And they may not take you to all the places you want to travel to
Although Delhi Metro doesn’t cover all the destinations in Delhi, nevertheless, it does cover a considerable part of Delhi and also the suburbs. The Delhi metro fare is affordable. And this is one reason why people prefer this option instead. It is quite reasonable for the frequent travelers and those who have to commute to office everyday.
Buses have always been an essential part of transportation in Delhi. The buses in Delhi are either owned by the private bus owners or Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC). The bus fare is low. As such this is a favorite mode of transport in Delhi among the frequent commuters too
You can hire a taxi if you are not able to avail any of the modes of transport mentioned above. Operated mostly by Delhi Transport Corporation and Ministry of Tourism, you can get them from the taxi stands. Alternatively, you can call a taxi over the phone.
The railway stations from where you can hop on to a local train include New Delhi, Old Delhi, Pragati Maidan, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Okhla, Shaku Basti, Tilak Bridge, and Shahdara etc.
In addition to the different modes of transportation in Delhi mentioned above, if you want to reach Delhi by flight from another city or country, you can do so easily.
Delhi airport is known by the name Indira Gandhi International Airport. From here domestic as well as international flights arrive and depart. There are flights at frequent intervals.
