Gurdwara Nanak Piao History
Gurdwara Nanak Piao is one of the famous historical monuments that is located in northern India. This is also considered to be one of the famous tourist attractions. The Gurudwara sahib was dedicated to the very first Sikh Guru, whose name is Sri Guru Nanak Dev.
The gurudwara was first at the place where Guru Nanak first stayed when he visited the place in the year 1505. This was the time when Sultan Sikhander Shah Lodhi was at the authority.

The gurudwara is situated at Rana Pratap Road. This would be more familiarly known as the Grand Trunk Road in Delhi. It is said there were devotees who visited the poet and gave their offerings to him. Some of them were the Bhai Marana Gifts. Guru Nanak used to give all these offering to the ones that are poor and needy. Apart from this he also used to give food and water to the ones who remained hungry and thirsty. This is exactly why the shrine is named so.
The word “Piao” means to offer any kind of liquid drink.
Gurdwara Nanak Piao Ceremonies
The gurudwara is said to have several ceremonies and religious rituals that people take part in. There are the holy offerings and the prayer sessions. You can also be a part of the gathering where holy words are read from the sacred texts. This generally takes place during the mornings and evening time.
The gurudwara also observes the death anniversary of Guru Nanak. On this day you will find a number of devotees offering their homage on that very day. The place is also close to the Sabzi Mandi area. You will see a lot of local residents coming on thus auspicious day to offer their prayers.
Gurdwara Nanak Piao Architecture
All historical monuments have an élan and grandeur to them. This is more so for their architecture and design. As you enter the gurudwara you will find that it has got an impressive gate with Mughal style and pattern. The place is elevated on a four to five feet high platform. The ground for the Parikrama too is very wide and elaborate. If you have a look at the interiors and the ceilings, you would sure find them similar to the Sheesh Mahal style. Once you take a walk behind the Gurudwara you will see that there is beautifully decorated “sarovar”. There is also an arched veranda at the borders.
As you explore the gurudwara you will find the well from where Guru Nanak used to serve water to the poor and the needy people.

- Though on a religious place anytime is favorable, but the best time would be early morning and evening. You can explore the place in all its serenity then.
- Since it’s a place of worship it would be good of you wear sober clothing.
- Take off your shoes as and when the guidelines are given. There will be people to take charge of your shoes in the gurudwara.
