Jama Masjid

Jama Masjid is known as one of the largest mosques in India. It is situated in Old Delhi and can accommodate up to 25000 people. The mosque was completed in the year 1656 AD. The name that needs to be given credit here is the great Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. The work involved some 5000 craftsmen to finish the construction. The mosque is located just opposite to Red Fort in Old Delhi.

Jama Masjid Structure

The mosque is said to have three minarets and three gates. They are 40 meters in height and have four towers. The minarets have been made using red sand stone. You can also see the white marbles that had black stripes in them. It is said that Jama Masjid used to be the primary mosque of Shah Jahan. It is situated at the apex of the Bho Jhala. This is in the Mughal capital which is Shahjahanbad. The mosque is open everyday from dawn to dusk everyday. It remains closed during the prayer sessions. Women cannot enter the mosque after 6:00pm in the evening.
